What happened today in history?
Today in history quite a few things went down. In 1957 the Russians sent a Siberian husky named Laika into space aboard the sputnik 2 spacecraft. It survived on a life support system for several days until the batteries ran out, then she died. The scientists obtained very useful information concerning how the body changes in space. Before the program she was a stray living on the streets of Moscow. About a dozen more dogs were sent into space before they could sent the first maned space flight.
This here is Laika in her little machine about to make history.
There is a very sweet Swedish movie made called 'My Life As a Dog' in which the young boy wonders sadly about poor Laika up there dying.
ReplyDeleteSad story, but its cool that we learned stuff from it.
